Classes at Starke Fitness are designed to accommodate all fitness and experience levels by using movements that can be adjusted to match the goals and capabilities of each individual. Our balanced approach targets the whole body and builds functional strength, forms lean muscle and improves flexibility.

THE STARKE METHOD

ENDURANCE TRAINING THAT WORKS.

We utilize interval training with the goals of building functional strength, creating lean muscle and improving flexibility. Through exercises performed at alternating levels of intensity, interval training yields a high caloric burn rate, improves your aerobic capacity & cardiovascular fitness, and also provides variety to the workout regimen to keep results from stagnating.

The Starke Method integrates full-body cardio, strength and endurance training into every 50-minute class using bodyweight exercises, plyometrics, kettlebells, rope exercises, intervals, circuits and running. Our trainers emphasize the three core components of effective interval training:

  • Maintaining proper form
  • Performing the right combination of exercises to maximize results
  • Proper recovery between exercise sequences to reduce the risk of injury

ABOUT RYAN

FROM NEAR-DEATH TO IRONMAN.

At age 24, Ryan’s life was spiraling out of control. A lifestyle of heavy drinking, bad eating habits and inactivity had caused Ryan to hit 250 pounds and be plagued with a host of health issues. After breaking his leg and nearly dying from his habits, Ryan momentarily changed his lifestyle, but was soon back to his old ways less than a year later. Finally, one day in July of 2007, Ryan made a commitment to himself to go cold turkey and turn his life around.

Ryan struggled with moments of weakness and depression that tempted him to quit and resume his previous lifestyle. With the support of close friends and family, Ryan found the strength to overcome difficult physical and mental obstacles and continue to push forward. He started running, swimming and biking, as well as making changes to his diet and working toward total wellness. Not only did Ryan begin to see results, he also began to enjoy his newfound, active lifestyle. A friend introduced him to his first triathlon in September 2007, the Granite Bay Triathlon, where he placed fifth in his weight division. Ryan became hooked on the sport and has since transitioned into Olympic triathlons, Half Ironman, Ironman and ultra trail running.

The support Ryan received on his journey was instrumental to his success and inspired him to pass that strength along to others. In 2012, he founded Starke Fitness—named after the German word for strength—to foster a fitness community of members that inspire each other with strength and resilience. Ryan believes life is one big triathlon and incorporates many of the concepts he uses to train and prepare for his competitions into his classes. He continues to compete in various endurance competitions each year and is always happy to share his passion and experiences with others.
